De-escalation Live Virtual Training
This is a 3 part series (3 sessions @ 120 minutes each) covering the following:
Behaviour Through the Lens of Trauma-Informed Care:
At the end of the day, the quality and effectiveness of lower-barrier shelter is driven by a program’s collective response to difficult behaviors.
This two-hour session will cover a practical overview of trauma-informed care and lower-barrier service delivery and how we can understand escalations and other difficult behaviors through the lens of trauma-informed care.
Practical De-escalation Strategies that work:
Generally, behavior escalates when people feel unseen, unheard, unsafe, or disrespected.
This two-hour session focuses on practical approaches to de-escalation that work: how to approach escalated guests, how to listen for unmet needs and validate feelings, and how to use verbal communication, body language, regulation strategies, and reasonable boundaries to effectively address challenging behaviors in shelter settings.
Behind the Scenes: Policies and Practices to Improve Safety in Lower-Barrier Settings:
Effective de-escalation is more than just the right script at the right time. It’s built into our culture, our onboarding, our training, and our operating procedures.
This two-hour session focuses on improvements we can make to our policies, our operating procedures, our onboarding, and our supervision strategies to make sure staff members respond consistently and compassionately to a wide range of behaviors. The session includes ways shelters can view challenging behaviors along a continuum to ensure everyone responds in the same way, every time.
These sessions will be taking place on July 29th, 2025 at 1pm EST, on August 26, 2025 at 1pm EST, and on September 9th at 1pm EST.
This de-escalation training program involves 3 sessions of 2 hours each (1-3PM EST each day). Registrants are expected to attend each of the sessions. If you are not able to attend one of the sessions, please reach out to info@orgcode.com to gain access to a time-limited viewing of the recording of the missed session.
